What's New | Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

18:41

Guess what's back in my life?! Yes, the popular Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation! Those that have been following my blog for a long time would know that this foundation was my ride or die about 3/4 years ago before I ditched it for the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra. All this talk about the new NARS Luminous Weightless foundation had me wanting a change from my Lancome foundation. Unfortunately being nowhere near any NARS counters, I was unable to get a sample of the foundation. I wasn't going to spend £32 on something I couldn't try before hand. Also, I came across a few not so positive reviews of the foundation that put me off.
I've been aware that Estee Lauder have extended their range of shades in the UK for darker skin since I used to use the 'Double Wear' foundation back in 2011. One of my main issues back then was that I couldn't get the foundation in a good colour match (I used to use '6N1 Truffle') without having to mix with a lighter shade. Who has time for that? For some reason, the ladies on the Estee Lauder counters recently kept colour matching me to '5N2 Amber Honey' but every time I tried this shade, the tone looked off. I took it upon myself to ask for a sample of '6W1 Sandalwood'. This shade is perfect for me! If you're '#11 Muscade' in Lancome Teint Idole Ultra then this shade should also be a really good match for you. I know in the picture below the colour looks really off and much darker than my skin tone but my arms are lighter than my face. It all comes together nicely after I've completed my makeup application.

Estee Lauder are quite generous with their samples. My sample bottle lasted three weeks (using it everyday). Before the end of the first week, I was reminded why I fell in love with this foundation in the first place. I can't believe I ever stopped using it! Older and wiser in this makeup game, I definitely know how to get even more natural results with this foundation. Although it doesn't come with a pump, I've been using the equivalent to about 1/1.5 pump for my whole face and I've also discovered that it works best with a damp Beauty Blender.
Most of my thoughts and feelings on this foundation outlined in the review written in 2011 (click HERE) still remain. As mentioned earlier, my application of it has changed. If you would like an updated review, do let me know and if anything, be sure to get yourself a sample because I do think this foundation is one of the best out there!

  1. I would definitely like to see an update to how you apply this foundation. I have been meaning to try it out for the longest while and finally got a sample yesterday from my local Boots. I'm also Sandalwood but when I tried initially my pores looked massive - my pores are never an issue for me!! I've decided I'm getting it anyhow so I'm curious as to how you get a flawless finish with it.

    Looking forward to your post.

    1. I haven't had an issue with it emphasizing my pores. I do plan on having a post up but I've just been so busy with Uni, etc. I think the less you use, the better and I'd recommend a beauty blender for application x

  2. i would loveeee to try this foundation. thank you for the review, as for the new nars foundation it's not all that. Quite a matte finish, goes on better when applied by hand. to achieve a full coverage 2 pumps would be ideal. I'm due to write a review on the foundation.

  4. Just like you I was really tempted to try this but I got the same shade issue that you had. I've always feared to be unable to find the right color. But I think, I will get a sample of it too before getting it cause all the girls who wears that foundation look flawless ^^

  8. I regret getting Luminous Weightless foundation it doesn't stay all day on my face and clogs my pores. I'm a huge Nars fan but this disappointed me, Estée Lauder Doublewear hands down my favourite foundation, it is everything I need for my oily skin

    1. I've heard this so much about the NARS foundation. I don't think I'll be bothering with it. There are just too many mixed reviews and I don't want to waste money. If they're willing to give a sample, I wouldn't mind trying it though, just for my own judgement

    1. To be honest, I really like both. If you like a full coverage foundation then I'd say Estée Lauder dw is the way to go although the Lancôme is buildable, EL has a more polished finish. You could have Lancôme for day wear and EL for going out but I wear mine during the day too. EL does not budge or smudge. Once it's set, it is SET. It all depends on what your needs are really

  11. Received sample of this at Truworths in Cape Town, Sandlewood, Im Spice in Revlon colorstay comb oily skin and cappuccino in photoready, This ELDW blends well and a perfect match. It does not rub off and lasts. No irritation at all.

  14. As much as I really want this foundation Estée Lauder just can't match me, the first time ever I was matched too Amber Honey which looked really red on me, mind you my neck and chest are slightly lighter than my face so I always opt to match my foundation to my neck/chest. I went to another store and I was matched to rich chestnut which is no way near my shade at all, then toasty toffee which came out slightly ashy on me, that 3 shades already so I have finally given up on ever getting matched with Estée Lauder. I wear Lancôme shade 10(lightly darker when it oxidises on me) I wear Mac between NC45/NC50 and Mary Kay Matte foundation in bronze 2/3.

  15. I love the EL foundation. I use it in Cashew 3w2. And it's my holygrail. I have a lot of foundations. But the EL never fails me.
